Name: M. Marble
As the title suggests, this is a chronicle of my changing times. I currently live Arlington, Virginia and I go to graduate school at ESIA at GWU. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Haskovo, Bulgaria. Now I'm what's called a RPCV. I see this as an open diary of where I was, where I am and of course where I hope to go. It's a record of the daily trials, tribulations, successes and distractions of my journey. I hope you enjoy it. Welcome to a slice of my world.
I'm also obliged to say that this is not an official Peace Corps website and the views and information presented here are my own and do not represent official Peace Corps views.

Well, I'm getting ready for my trip out west. I leave tomorrow - so today is a day of running around and packing. It's made more difficult by the fact I'm playing poker tonight at my brother-in-law's and just got an invite for a cookout prior to that over at my buddy Sean's house. So I must run, do laundry, and pack in the next 3 hrs. Should be fun... Weeee!!!
I crossed another hurdle yesterday in my journey towards Peace Corps. I had my physical. Outside of being overwieght a bit and smoking, I'm in pretty good shape. I've posted what I'm doing about smoking and working out - so hopefully that'll resolve itself. I have to say - I do feel better (albeit more tired) now that I've taken to working out. It's definately a good thing. Everything is moving along as planned. Now if it would only move along quicker...
Speaking of which, I have a couple of busy days ahead. Tomorrow is just a normal work day, although I plan on giving blood at lunch. Friday I have to run down to the doctors office (again) to prove I don't have TB. And all of a sudden it's the weekend where there's packing, working out, poker and then this little thing about a flight to LA. I can't wait. And with the help of James, it looks like we'll be doing this little jaunt across 2/3's of the country on the cheap. Here's to that happening. Now if we can only find hotels with work out facilities so I don't lose momentum.
And if ya'll have some free time, check out www.tarflies.com - the The Amazing Race website I've been helping manage. There's a new design (of sorts) and a lot of new content going up every day. The show starts in a mere 12 days or so. I know I'm really looking forward to it.
So I received an email a couple weeks ago from a guy in my high school graduating class who is attempting to get our ten year reunion together. I don't know about anyone else, but I pretty much hated high school with a passion reserved normally for cockroaches in my kitchen (or palmento bugs as they're called around here - don't ask me why) or idiots who drive the speed limit in the fast lane on freeways. I've swore up and down that I'd never go back to any function for R B Chamberlin and I think I'm gonna be able to hold true to my goal. I got onto classmates.com and upon looking at the list of everyone who was registered I realized that I have no desire to see most, if not all, of them again. I have decided that should I ever become relatively successful in my field or whatever I might return just to gloat a bit. But that seems rather high schoolish and immature to me.
I did see one person on the list who I was curious about. This girl named Erica who was in just about every one of my classes as well as Swing Choir, Drama and a number of other random after school activities. Hell we both even worked at Sea World the same summer. Honestly I had a crush on her from the 8th grade until we graduated - which I pretty much assumed was an open secret, but I never confirmed anyone else knew. Of course I had a girlfriend (Jeni) for all four years of high school, so it wasn't like I was really pining away. I was quite happy with Jeni - Erica was just different. Anyhoo, I did a bit of searching on the web and took a random shot in the dark on a possible work email address for her and - wahlah! I got a reply from her the yesterday and she gave me her home email address and hopefully she'll drop me a line sooner or later and we'll catch up. I know she's living in Chicago working for an investment firm. I'm really curious on how the past 10 yrs have treated her. We'll see how that all goes...
So after talking with my friend Kristen up in NYC, I've decided to start working out even if I'm having difficulty quitting smoking. I've used my smoking as an excuse (or at least one of them) not to work out. Well, I can't keep doing that. Maybe working out will make me want to quit - becuase right now I don't want to. I mean, I do want to for health and monetary reasons; but I still enjoy smoking. I know it's dumb, but it's the way I am right now and as any smoker (former or present) will tell you - until you're ready to quit you won't be able to do so. So I went in and ran for 25 minutes durning my lunch hour today. I've arranged to go run on my brother-in-law's treadmill tomorrow morning (later today).
I need to do somthing becuase I weighed myself earlier today and I'm up to 255 lbs and that's just not acceptable. Its about 50 lbs more than I weighed when I graduated and it just needs to go. It's starting to show noticably on my frame. I've felt I've managed to hide it a bit up until now, but as of now, I think it's starting to really show. So I'll run 30 min a day as often as I can and continue to cut down on the Cokes and we'll see what happens.
Just another thing to add to my list of trying to remake myself and head foward...
It's been a while - I couple quick updates then a couple of links of interest.
Dad got a job. Life is good there. I'm now teaching Sunday School for the Sr. High Schoolers (although no one really showed up last week - so I took those who did to McDonalds). Still smoking - not sure what to do about that. My Uncle is moving in because he's getting a divorce. My other Uncle is coming down this weekend to try to sell my family on some internet scheme. I'm considering asking to switch jobs at work - get myself off sales/phones. There's a new girl at work who's kinda young (spastic) but nice (and just walked up behind me as I typed this). I'm being careful becuase I don't want to be 'that guy' who's always hitting on the new girl. I'm pretty sure I'm not... Gearing up for the new season of the Amazing Race - very excited about that. Finally, I'm looking forward to my trip out west with James here in 10 days...
As for links - keeping in conjunction with the last post on blogs - here's a Time article on blogging with links to major blogs and here's another Time article on taking what's agreed upon from a number of major diets.
Of course - I'll clean this up from home later tonight. I just wanted to get a post up. (I think about posting every day - I just don't).
